The International Protection (IP) code is a standard that is used to describe the degree of protection offered by electrical equipment against the entrance of solid objects, dust, and water. The IP44 rating is one of the ratings that can be found inside the IP code. IEC 60529 is an international standard that addresses the insulation and protection of electrical equipment. This standard includes specifications for the IP code. The degree of protection that an item has against solid objects is indicated by the first digit of its IP code, and the degree of protection that an item has against water is indicated by the second digit. In the instance of IP44, the first number, "4", indicates that the apparatus offers protection against foreign objects that are larger than one millimeter in diameter.
